Retrieving actual file rather than getting 'Scrap' from MS word

Q

There is an xml file attached within a Word document. If I copy this
file and save it in a separate folder, I get a 'scrap' file. Is there
any possibility, to retrieve the attachment in the same .xml format?

I just went through some of older posts on this issue. Everywhere,
there is a link given to a MS article which explains about 'Scrap'.
This is not relevant to me at all. I am not bothered about how 'scrap'
file can be created, but about retrieving the same file which I had
attached earlier. Any ideas? How do you circumvent it?

Thanks!

I'm not sure how the file was "attached". I guess you pasted it in?

If it's an Ascii file, open and save the scratch file as text?

In case it isn't only ASCII, you'll get a warning about loosing characters when you save, and those characters will be shown in red in the dialog window. You could then try to save as UTF-8 text, or look what it says in the declaration at the top:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="whatever">
