Restricting programs loading - How to

B

BT

One of our household computers has six, separate users all of whom
have various programs, individual to their personal requirements,
that
load at start up. It seems that a large number of programs now load
up
no matter who is logging on (Itunes, Skype etc etc ) this is hugely
memory hungry. Is there any way, within XP, to restrict programs so
that only the ones applicable to an individual user profile load upon
log on ?

Yes it is possible

First you can:

1. Click Start | Run | MSCONFIG [enter]

2. Click the STARTUP tab

3. Deselect any programs you don't want to start up for all users

4. When logged in as Administrator (or the user who wants to modify startup)
open windows explorer and browse to:

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

You will need to drag the shortcuts of programs you want to start up for
that user into this folder.

Please note some programs will check when they start and automatically add
themselves to startup for all users, you will have to turn this option off in
each individual program.

Hope this helps.
