restoring ntds.dit

H

Henrik Johansson

A network with a single DC (Win2k) crashed totally (bad system disk) and the
only solution was to reinstall it from scratch.

The NTDS-directory was located on a disk that still is operating.
So my question: Is it possibly to recover/import this old ntds.dit into the
reinstalled domain?
Have tried to reboot server to AD recovery mode and use ntdsutil with the
result "inconsistent database". and "Jet-error 509"

You will need to perform a system state restore. Restoring the ntds.dit
file by itslef will not work.

It was my first thaught and when I asked the responsible person who manages
that network about system state I got the answer that he didn't remember he
has made something like that.
So I hoped it was somehow possibly for a workaround, but if not, the worse
case is that he has to recreate all users.
