restoring my registry

I have been trying to rescue my hard drive. Chkdsk and the WDC utility both
quit because of too many errors on the disk. It is clean of viruses now and
will boot but it's slow and still has problems running. I've backed up the
registry with erunt and all the files on the disk with the backup utility. I
used erunt because backup couldn't do the system state because of errors.

If I reformat the whole hard drive and then restore the files with backup
and the registry with erunt, am I right that my restored apps will work
without reinstalling them too?

Ever here of the "Ultimate Boot Disk"? http://www.ubcd4win.com/ I am not
sure if you have access to another computer to make one, but there are a few
programs on this CD that may help you. As far as your retore, that should
work.....but worried you may have application problems/errors.

Hi Jeff,

First of all it sounds like the hard drive is trash, and formatting
will not help that.
You need to contact WD.

After performing a clean install you will need to reinstall all the
application. Restoring the registry as you suggest is not a good idea.
I doubt it would work anyway.
