Restoring files from DOS B/U

I have some old backup files that were saved on zip disks that I would like
to restore to my XP (home) system, but it appears that the DOS "restore"
command does not exist on XP. I've tried using the "backup/restore" wizard on
XP, but it does not recognize the file format (backup.001 & control.001 are
the file names). The
backup file was created on DOS 5.0 if that helps.

Does anyone know of a way to restore the files to XP?

Thanks for your help...

What program did you use to originally backup the files? If they are only
copies of an original from a hard drive you don't use a backup program to
open them. You need either the original program or a compatible reader.

Even if you manage to find a copy of that old backup program and run
it off a boot floppy, it won't do you any good. The restore function
will want to put the files back into the directory from whence they
came, and since DOS 5 won't be able to understand a FAT32 FS, let
alone NTFS, it will probably exit and not very gracefully at that.
