Restoring default view in Windows Explorer.

After a reinstall of XP, the view in the left pane of Windows Explorer for
C:\, Program Files, and Windows displays a warning that the folder contains
system files and there is a link to show the folders and files.

After clicking the link to show the files, how do I restore the message so I
can once again hide the folders and files?

Thank you for taking time to reply to my question. :)

However, I'm not trying to display the system files and folders. Would not
ticking this option show the folders and files for C:\, Program Files, and
Windows?

That's not what I want to happen. I want to be able to do is the opposite,
not show system folders and files. I want to restore the image in the left
pane of windows explorer that warns you that the folder contains system
files. How do I do that?

I've permanently deleted the files that cause it to behave the way you want
it to, so I can't exactly test this, but doesn't simply refreshing the
folder work? Or maybe closing and re-opening Explorer?

If not, I'm at a loss, as I absolutely detest that behaviour in XP (though I
fully understand and agree with why it's there), so it's usually one of the
first things to go on any XP machines I'm using regularly.

lol

I too detest a lot of behavior in Windows XP.

Strangely, however, I have a fondness for this folder view. It creates the
illusion of innocence. ;)

Unfortunately, refreshing or restarting windows explorer doesn't restore the
warning, and I do have the "show contents of system folders" unticked.

For each folder you wish to put back, click on the folder in the left panel
so that the contents show in the right panel.

Display the folder in Category View (unclick the Foler toolbar button in the
toolbar, if depressed).

Under System Tasks in left panel, Click on Hide the contents of this folder.

You need to do this for each one. Once in Category view, just enter the
folder name in the Address Bar (if you have it showing). Just enter the
name, e.g., C:\Program Files, then Enter.

Awesome!!! Thank you very much :)

Never realized I could use category view in Windows Explorer. Always saw
Windows Explorer as a dual-pane version of My Computer. I don't like using
My Computer because it defaults to one pane.

Thanks again for your help.
