Restore using XP Restore Utility

XP Pro - up to date

The HD on my Dell laptop is giving warnings.

I was able to get a good backup using the MS/Veritas backup utility included
with XP Pro. A new HD is on the way.

What is the smartest way to restore?

My plan (is it the best, the only way?) is to:

Use Dos 6.22 to format/setup my new HD
install XP Pro on the new HD
Use the MS/Veritas backup/restore utility to restore.

Do I need to install a full XP Pro?
Is there a way to use the XP Pro install CD to restore (therefore avoid a
full install)?

TIA Dennis

May depend on whether you have a full version of winxp pro or restore
version.
The winxp cd is bootable, you may have to enable boot from cd in the bios,
and contains all the tools for partitioning / format. There is no need to
use a third party tool, which in some cases can cause more problems

If the hd is giving warnings it would be safest to install anew rather than
cloning to new hd
