Restore points

I have Windows XP home edition.The other day when
starting my computer, as I logged on everything including
the mouse locked up. I tried restarting several times
with no luck. Keyboard functions kind of worked.When I
finally got things running again by using the keyboard,a
lot of settings where changed from before. Instead of
resetting a lot of stuff, I was going to restore to a
previous restore point, but discovered that all previous
restore points have disappeared. Are they still on the
system somewhere or are they gone forever? Someone please
help.Thanks

All restore points are gone. Interesting you stated 'when starting my
computer'. This leads me to believe your CMOS battery gave out. If the battery
dies, you lose all BIOS settings. Possibility???

does your time change when you boot up? Is the date off also? if so that
would be the CMOS battary going bad and it doesn happen, cheep to replace.
Your recovery points are gone sorry, once it loses power from that battary
things like that happen.

Erm, no they don't. The CMOS battery has no bearing on restore points - or
data, full stop.

You need to rid the machine of the spyware and viruses that are resident and
in your case the best bet is to format and reinstall windows
