restore from xp bkf possible?

Tom

I finally got the raid issue resolved and got RC2 installed. I need to
restore some data from a bkf backup file that was created using xp. Is it
possible to do this with Vista. I went to the vista backup/restore program
and could not get it to see the backup file.

Thanks for the info. Because of the older nf4 chipset I have, I am forced
to create the drive partitions with vista before it will install so I have
to restore my data files. The only way I have found to do that so far is
to share the drive with the back file and use another machine on my home
network and restore it that way but it is a large file so it takes quite a
bit of time to do it but at least it works for now.

I found one work around for it. I built a PE disc with the ntbackup plugin
and that worked for me.

Jill,

Do you have any further information on this utility yet? I have a 157GB
..bkf file that I need to restore onto my Vista RC2 machine...

Thanks.

It doesn't appear MS has a utility yet to resolve this, I would like to make
some suggetions:

bkf files are restorable on both XP and WSS2003, if you have access to
another on your network, this would be quicker than waiting for MS.

Also, you could throw an additional harddrive on your machine and install a
base copy of XP (even the trial would work). To save time, skip the patching
process and just disconnect you machine from the internet while you perform
your restore.

Lastly, the a virtual PC 2004 installation of XP MAY work as well...a bit
time consuming but, definitely faster than waiting.
