Hello,
From what I understand, a picture of your system was created using
Norton Ghost. Apparently there is an error and Ghost is asking you if
you want the error information to be saved to A:\GHOSTERR.TXT. Select
"Yes". When you exit, see what's in ghosterr.txt using whatever text
editor is on the floppy. if no text editor is present use the following
command ('type' is a command, make sure you type it):
type ghosterr.txt |more
If it's a problem with the CD (ie.: it's damaged) try a data recovery
centre. If it's a problem with the files (ie.: their corrupted) try the
following:
Run this command:
mouse
If no mouse driver is present on the floppy you'll just have to use
arrows to navigate around Ghost. The next command is:
type autoexec.bat |more
Take a piece of paper and write down the command line parameters passed
to ghost (written after (on the same line) ghost.exe). The next command
is:
ghost
This will open up Ghost's UI. I haven't used Ghost in a long time so I
won't be able to tell you exactly the menu labels but here's what you
do. Open the window where you configure Ghost. Do NOT change anything.
Based on the command line options passed to ghost in AUTOEXEC.BAT
determine whether the image was taken of a partition or drive. Most
likely it's an image of a drive, but check it just to be safe. The
command line options are included (at least in my Ghost they are) along
with the explanation of what they do so you should have no trouble
finding out what's what. Then, run a CRC check, then try recovering
the image to partition or drive (depending what the image was taken of)
from the Ghost UI instead of booting up from the floppy.
And no, you do not need to buy a Ghost CD. Ghost is just a small
executable and you already have it on the floppy (ghost.exe).
Hope this helps.
