Resizing Partitions with PartitionMagic

C

Charliec

I have a 120GB Harddrive divided into 3 partition:
C - 21gb
D - 44gb
E - 47gb
I want to use PartitionMagic v8 to take 10gb from drive D and add it
to drive C. What is the be procedure using PartitionMagic to
accomplish that. Thanks for any insight.

Partition Magic comes with a detailed help file, as well as a user manual. In addition, the Symantec web site has a great deal of helpful information. I suggest you use these resources, since this newsgroup is for Windows XP.

Be aware that repartitioning a hard disk is an advanced manouver. Make sure that you understand clearly what to do before starting.

You want the "resize" option. Resize D: downward and resize C: upward. You
can lose information if you abort the process or have a power failure in the
middle of the procedure. Read the manual that was installed with the
program.

As an addition to the two previous answers make a backup of any important
data on all of the partitions C,D, & E before doing anything. Changing
partition sizes can have unforeseen consequences which can include rendering
the whole drive unreadable. It is unlikely but it does happen.

Why are you asking here? PM is not a MS program, nor is partitioning
your HD truly a hardware problem. None of this is really related to
the group theme of XP and hardware.

The question is asked here dozens of times because the operating system DOES
NOT have the built in capabilities to do resizing. It is a valid question.

The question was: "What is the be procedure using PartitionMagic to accomplish that."

The name of this newsgroup is WindowsXP.

Partition Magic has a Help file. It also has a users manual.

Partition Magic is (currently) a product of Symantec, which has a knowledgebase that includes articles such as "Using the Resize a Partition task in PartitionMagic 8.0" (http://tinyurl.com/9p3ft), among other related topics. Symantec also has free online chat with a support technician.

I shall stop answering this type of question immediately. NOT!

Until the operating system has a built in facility to do resizing of
partitions I shall assist, when I can. You, of course, don't have to do
anything.

You can answer questions about the Macintosh, if you like. Nobody's stopping you.

The OS also does not have a built in capability to flash BIOS. I
suppose you think questions related to that are valid here? According
to your logic they are, although they clearly are NOT.

Well gee! I hope you don't mind if I answer those also.

Top posting...answering questions not related to the group.....

No, I guess I shouldn't mind. Most folks just don't pay attention to
the antics of the village idiot, after all.
