resize problem of image in PPT

If I have a MHTML content that has any image and open in powerpoint, then
resize image, and save back into PPT format, and reopen, then I am not able
see the image. It shows red cross and not able to render the image.
have any one seen this issue.
I can supply sample mhtml files if required.

Which version of PowerPoint are you using?

Hi Steve,
the MHTML content is generated by our custom application - which generates
mhtml and save in disk with extension of .ppt and also with .doc. If user
double clicks that file with ..ppt extn, powerpoint is able to show the
content as well as images embedded with base64 encoded. If user resizes that
image and do save again, then power point prompts to save as different file
name - as it detects underlying content is mhtml and if we choose to save
again as ppt, then close and reopen, it looses those image - I mean next time
ppt is anot able to render that image. However in word, if we do the same
operation, word retains its mhtml format and able to show again.
