Reseting the Start Menu View from Windows Classic to the XP Style

R

Rick

I am using XP Pro on my company's network and my current
view for my start menu is the classic style of Windows. I
would like to reset it back to the newer XP style. When I
go into the properties for the start menu, all I see is a
single radio button which allows the user to select the
classic start menu view (I can't deselect it, or reset it
to any other settings). This PC is on my company's network
and I suppose that they could have disabled the XP style
view, but I'm not sure. Does this sound likely, or is
there another way to reset it?

Thanks,

-Rick

Is the theme service enabled?

Hi Durand,

The thems is currently set to Windows Classic
(modified). I had tried to reset it to XP, but this still
did not give me the ability to uncheck the classic view.
Thanks for the response.

1) Download and instal this Repair Tool...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm
(Repair/Customize Quick Launch, Taskbar and Notification Area)

2) Launch the tool, and then select:
[Taskbar/Stuck in Classic View]

If that does not help, then try...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 271,(Stuck in Classic View? Undo Now)

Maybe read here under...

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear when answering your post Rick. If
you right click my computer>manage>services and applications>theme
service. Is that showing that it is started or not as well as
automatic, manual, or disabled? If not, then you need to change its
properties so that it on automatic and started.

Probably a domain policy being applied. There's no way around it if so (except not joining the network).

Type gpresult /v to see if it's a policy and who is setting it.
