Rerouting elbow connectors in PowerPoint 2002

I am trying to create an org chart in PowerPoint 2002 using elbow connectors.
I can snap the connector to the connector site on the autoshape, but then I
need to change the routing of the connector and there are no yellow
adjustment handles showing on the connector. When I use the "reroute
connectors" command an adjustment handle does appear but it also reroutes the
connector to a different connector site on the autoshape! Very frustrating -
any ideas?

Hi John,

Sounds like you are manually creating the Org Chart. When you create a
elbow connector, the only part that will have a yellow handle is a part that
does not connect to a shape. So if the connector has 2 - 90 bends, then it
will have 1 yellow connect. The reroute connectors basically restores the
default path that the computer would have chosen if it made the connection.

If you can connect the connection to another side of the autoshape, you
should get a connector. This is not always a good idea Sometimes in this
case you can fake a new connector by making two connectors that share a
point where they connect to each other. They will not resize or move like
regular connectors from that point on, however. You can also optionally
group the connectors into a single item, but then neither end will stay
connected.

** Caution Understatement Ahead** The Org Chart that PowerPoint uses is
somewhat limited. You may want to look at MS Visio, which has much more
flexible Org Charting options.

Hi Bill

Thanks for your help - I have been manually creating the chart using
existing autoshapes that were already formatted so I didn't have to start
over...

I found that when I had managed to line up all the connectors so they were
in line with each other, any resizing of the org chart would result in the
connectors retaking their original default path and I had to start again...
looks like we would be better getting hold of Visio!
