requery in a form

I am new at querys and filters and i am still trying to understand them.

I have set up a query in a form as a subform, when i open the main form, is
there a way to make the Like statement not work till requery it.

You'll need to give more of an explanation of what you mean here. We cannot
see your form or your and have no idea what you mean by "make the Like
statement not work". Please elucidate and perhaps post the SQL view of the
query, and how you want it to work.
