Report fields to linked table

Why does Access stop responding when I map a report field to a a linked
table. I have a report and I am changing the field on a report to a new
Control source and Access just hangs. 10-12 minutes later it comes back. This
sucks.

Has nothing to do with it being a linked table.
If you just open the linked table, does it take a long time?
Can you describe the report's recordsource?
