Report: 5728 install - HD +ISO mounted

P

PowerUser

Just finished installing 5728 right now.

Hardware:
Dell Inspiron 1505 (Notebook)- 1.6 Intel Core Duo, 1GB RAM, Geforce Go 7300,
Installed on 17.2GB NTFS w/ XP dual boot

I elected not to waste a DVD- And ended up learning quite a bit. Mounted
the ISO using Daemon Tools. Also- Extracted the ISO into a folder on the XP
partition. Ran setup.exe from there, not the mounted ISO, since I read that
there could be problems.

Install took 33 minutes to the config screen, and 39 minutes to a fully
booted usable state (after perf evaluation). Installed 2 updates that came
up after the install thru WU ( - Why doesn't the install catch them?) and
also an optional update for the Geforce card.

Must say that this new install engine is a huge success; sub 10min installs
on fast PCs is very conceivable.

Performance/reliability not compared yet.

Hi,

The updates were likely for Windows Defender, and they wouldn't be caught
until after this utility is running in normal mode.

Incidentally, I use DVD/RW media so as to not waste a lot of disks. Just
format in between builds.
