Replicating files from old to new AD domain controller

Folks,

We are running AD in our network and I have just installed a second
domain controller as the original on is pretty sick.

What I want to do is replicate all the files and shares across to the
new DC. I could just copy all the files and recreate the shares but I
would loose all the permissions.

I looked into file replication but I could not work out how to make it
replicate files and shares (only SYSVOL etc). I also looked at DFS
but this seems to be overkill.

Can someone offer advice ?

forget file replication and anything else. Two methods to migrate file
servers:

Use the file server migration utility.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/upgrading/nt4/tooldocs/msfsc.mspx

i think the easier way is this:
backup all the files with ntbackup and the restore them on the new
server. So the NTFS Permissions will keep in an existing state. As an
alternative you can copy these files with "xcopy /o". I think "ntbackup"
is easier;-)

After this you export the following registry key on the old server:
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\Shares

When you moved the folders to another partition you must adjust the
paths in this exported regfile. After this you can import this file to
the new server.
Restart the "Server" Service on the new server and you will see all
shares moved.

Sorry, I should have been specific - we are running Win2k server and it
appears the FSMT will only work with 2003.
