replacing Win98 PC on Network with an XP PRO PC

I've had two computers behind a Linksys router... a
Windows XP Home machine and a Windows 98 machine. They
can see each other in the Workgroup and use the DSL modem
which is connected to the router.

I've replaced the Windows 98 machine with a Windows XP Pro
machine. I had to add the IPX/SPX protocol on the XP PRO
machine before it could see and be seen by the XP HOME
machine.

The XP PRO machine cannot see the DSL modem. The XP HOME
machine see's it and if I put the Windows 98 machine back
on the network both it and the XP Home machine can use the
dsl modem. How do I get the XP PRO machine to see the DSL
modem. IE resonds with "no internet connect present" when
I try to start it on the XP PRO Machine.

The problems I experienced have been resolved. I do not
know whether the actions I took resolved the problems or
the problems coincidently resolved themselves at the same
time I applied the actions.
Problem 1 - XP Pro machine couldn't see or be seen by the
XP Home machine.
Added the IPX/SPX protocol to the XP PRO machine
Problem 2 - XP Pro machine couldn't see the DSL modem
behind a LINKSYS router
From the XP HOME machine went through all the router
configuration/setup steps about 7 times. About 15 to 20
minutes after the last configuration attempt the XP Pro
machine was able to use the DSL modem.
Tis a brave new world - go figure.
