Replacing/re-installing lost OEM XP

Guest

Many computers don't come with original cds, just a reinstall partition.
There are several viruses that
contaminate the installation or
the installation just doesn't work (common with gateway/dell ghost)

Must the users purchase the oem disks to replace, or
can users use another copy of xp, with the license on the side of the
computer or
is all lost and a new version must be purchased?

If the XP came installed on the PC or delivered as an OEM version, the license
CD Key is OEM. You must get an OEM replacement CD or OEM System Recovery
CD. Microsoft will not replace the CD for you and the retail CDs kits will
not accept the old CD key.

If your computer's manufacturer cannot give you a replacement OEM XP, then
any reinstalled XP will have to be purchased by you anew. This is why many
people refuse to buy computers that do ot have an OS on a separate disk.
