Replacing CPU without need to reload Windows XP

I try to upgrade my PC with AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 266MHz FSB to AMD Athlon XP
+2800, 333MHz FSB without need to reformat hard drive and reinstalling all
software. When I tried to do so (e.g. I replaced CPU and set motherboard
jumpers to new frequency), at the beginning the computer seemed to start
working properly but later crushed, so I reinstalled the old CPU and now it’s
OK again. What I am doing wrong?

You new CPU has a FSB speed of 333Mhz, the old CPU has a slower FSB speed of
266Mhz. The memory sticks in your PC may not be rated for the higher
(333Mhz) speed.
