Replacing burnt laptop motherboard. Will WinXP still work?

My Dell laptop motherboard died this week. I found a replacement laptop
base/motherboard to effect repair. My plan is to move all the modular
components (LCD, hard disk, DVD, etc.) to the new base unit. Question is,
when my original hard drive boots up with a new motherboard and processor
(same model but obviously a different processor serial number), will it
still operate? Or is there a transfer procedure with Microsoft that I need
to complete beforehand?

Has anyone transferred XP software (legitimate transfer) successfully to a
new processor?

Thanks in advance,
Robert

Nothing whatsoever to do with Microsoft as they do not, cannot and will not
assist with OEM inatallations.

Dell, like many system manufacturers, consider a change of motherboard a
change of system (they 'BIOS-lock) their installations to a particular BIOS
and, if that BIOS is changed, then XP will not reinstall or boot. If you do
what you plan to then you will be required to purchase a new licence.
