Replacement of server

Chris

I am going to be replacing the first active directory
server with a new server. My plan is to run dcpromo on
the existing server to remove active directory, remove
the server, setup the new server and name it the same,
install active directory and join the existing directory,
restore files and share points and let my users go about
their business. I am sure that I am missing something
because it sounds too easy.

Thanks in advance
Chris

Make sure the FSMO roles if any are transferred to another DC.
See:
HOW TO: View and Transfer FSMO Roles in the Graphical User Interface

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255690

It should happen during dcpromo but you might want to check what roles it
holds and manually transfer them.

Make sure you remove all DNS entries related to the old DC and let the new
DC create it's own DNS records.
