Replaceing a website?

I have a totally revamped fp website to replace the old fp one.
The way I was thinking of replcing the old one was to open it live, delete
all pages except the index page, and then publish the new site and let the
index page be overwritten.
This seems too simple, can this be done this way, or is there a better way?

Yes, you can do that. Or just publish the new pages, if they have the same
filenames, then they will overwrite the old pages.

Open the live/remote site in FP, then delete everything you can see, except the images and _private
folder, for these just delete the content.
