Repetitious Beeping at Startup

When I power on my laptop and the operating system is starting up there is a
repetitious beeping (beep beep beep...beep beep beep) and it does this until
the login screen comes up. Would this be a problem with XP Pro or a hardware
problem? I have asked some of my college networking professors and its a
sound they have never heard before and don't seem to think it is a hardware
problem! If anyone has an idea of what it might be please let me know so I
can check it out!!
Thank you very much!

The beeps are usually indicative of a hardware problem. Your laptop's user
manual will be able to explain what they mean, and what to do about them.

As you will see at the above site, the 3 beeps in succession (whether using
AMI or Pheonix BIOS) is usually associated with
Memory Read/Write Error in first 64KB block (check memory). Quite possible
you have some memory that has gone bad. The easiest first step would be to
'reseat' the memory module(s) or swap them around. Reseating will often
renew the integrity of the contacts. Next would be to get a memory test app
such as Memtest (Google for it) and run a test on your module(s). Post back
and let us know what you find.

Some BIOSes (BIOS's?, BIOES?) will beep if you hold down a keyboard key whilst
booting. I assume you're not doing this but you may have a problem with your
keyboard.
