Repeat as header row does not work (MS Word 2007)

J

Jon

I'm selecting the header row, and checking 'Repeat as header row at the top
of the page'. Then I select OK. But the header row does not appear on the
same table on the same page.

Has this issue occurred to anyone else?

This appears to be normal behaviour.
Specifically you say "the same table on the same page" this to me means that
the table is not yet large enough to go onto a new page, hence the Header Row
is not required to be repeated. Is the table crossing pages? add new rows
temporarily to test if not.
The "Header Rows Repeat" does work but does have certain criteria.
1. The "Header Row" to be repeated must be the first row of the table but
can also be multiple rows that MUST include the first row of the table.
2. If the table is not large enough to cross pages, nothing will be repeated.
3. Header Rows Repeat will not work with a nested table - that is to say
that a table within a table can have HeaderRowRepeat activated but will not
work.

See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/ControlPgBrksInTables.htm which
cantains some possible other problems that can effect this function. This
page is not udpated for 207 but should point to any possible problems, see
"Heading rows don't repeat" near the bottom of the page for example.

If the table is crossing pages, can you describe further what you are
doing/seeing.
Hope this helps

Correction: the referenced article *has* been updated for Word 2007 (the
updates are subtle).

Well, it does work, I just couldnt' figure out why it doesn't work on this
particular document.

Basically I created a table with 2 columns, at some point I figured out it
had to have repeating header rows. So I selected the whole table (by
mistake), right click and Table Properties and checked 'Repeat as table
header row at the top of each table". Then I selected OK. No header row.

Then I selected the top row only, right click, Properties and selected
'Repeat as table header row', then OK but nothing happened.

This problem happened to me with Word 2003 and this is the first time with
Word 2007; however the file is saved as .doc for backward compatibility.

Any ideas would be helpful so I don't have to 'copy and paste' the header
every time :)

What is the correct answer? It doesn't look like there is an answer in this
string.

Repeat Header Rows can be applied to the row 1 or to rows 1--2 or to rows
1--3 (and so on). It doesn't work if you insert a page or section break
within the table, because this splits the table into two. However, you can
force a new page by applying "Page break before" formatting (Paragraph
dialog box) to a whole table row.

Also, Repeat Header Rows does not work if the Text Wrapping of the table is
set to "Around" (in the Table Properties dialog box).

Just looked here as having same problem and couldn't get header row to repeat and saw your guidance. Thanks. Didn't even know I had Text Wrapping set to Around but I did. Turned it off and all magically worked. Whew.

THANKS

None of the above solved my problem; however, I found a solution in another forum. With thanks to "bheiser," who posted in 2008:

- Select the whole table.
- De-select the "repeat as header row" option
- Select just the header row
- Select the "repeat as header row" option

This is working for me now in Word 2007, YMMV

Works for me too! :thumb:
