Repairing AIM 6.5 Damage to Vista? Standard User Accounts don't wo

I installed AIM 6.5 on a PC with Windows Vista Ultimate (User Account Control
disabled) and suffered many problems that have been noted by by others
elsewhere (network center stops working, Windows performance index goes
blank, etc.). I have unistalled AIM 6.5 and managed to repair several of the
problems. However, my children cannot log on to this PC with their standard
accounts. When they attempt to do so, the screen goes black and they never
reach their desktops. My wife and I can log on fine with our administrator
accounts.

I tried System Restore but that did not work. Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

Type cmd in the Start/search box, then when it appears in the list above,
right-click cmd.exe and select Run as administrator. Type "sfc /scannow" -
without the quote marks - and hit enter. This will attempt to repair any
corrupt system files. It may take a while.

Thanks, Jane, for a very useful recommendation. I ran the scan as you
suggested and go the following message: "Windows Protection Center found
corrupted files and was not able to fix some of them."

There was a log file of the scan but to be honest I could not understand the
information that was in the log file.

My kids still cannot log on to the computer with their standard accounts
(although my administrator account and my wife's administrator account both
work okay). Any suggestions about what to do next?

Thanks,

Bill
