Repair Installation????

What might "some" of the pitfalls of a repair installation be in light of
having to use a
four year old original CD on a machine that has been updated regularly?

I have two registered WinXP's on two different machines.
One of the copies is older and does not have SP2, the other does.
The machine I need to "re-install" on has the older original with SP2 added
later
and updated regularly.
Can I use the newer copy of WinXP to reinstall on the older version?
Or would that show I have two machines with the same copy of Win?

How much (percentage) does Windows reinstall?
Thanks
Xan
