How do I do a repair reinstall of my XP Pro SP3 (original MS setup CD)
after I had updated to Windows Media Player 11, Internet Explorer 7
and recently Internet Explorer 8?

Create a "Slipstreamed" version of XP that incorporates SP3

To do this Use AutoStreamer to create the CD,
it's easy to use and for the most part self explanatory.
After you create the CD then do a "Repair Install", see the last part
of my reply.

The slipstreamed CD you create will not include any specific drivers
for your motherboard, audio, video, network, etc. Those you will
need to download from your PC manufacture's or motherboard's
web site.

Now for the Repair Install:
Print the instructions posted at one of the web sites below,
read each of the steps carefully so you understand what you will be doing a
step by step before you actually start the repair process.
Windows will keep your previous settings, including applications and
device drivers.

Using the slipstreamed Windows CD you created,
boot from the CD and follow all the instructions until you get
to the point where Setup finds your current Windows installation.

Word of warning: Always backup any important data files just incase
things don't go as expected. Read all three articles mention below
"carefully" and see if a Repair Install meets your needs

See: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm
and: Windows XP Repair Install - How extreme can you go
http://www.pagestart.com/repairinstall.html

If the PC boots and you are able to logon, then check 'Device Manager' and
look for any Yellow ?
You may need to re-install the device drivers such as the Chipset drivers,
LAN, Sound any possibly
others.

Finally go to Windows Update site and install all the updates as they will
need to be reinstalled.

Please "read" my original ost. My install CD already has SP3
integrated into it. How would I "slipstream" IE 7 or IE 8 now?

You cannot include an IE upgrade on a slipstreamed CD of WinXP.
