repair consol password prob.

I was working on my laptop because it had an error message: ....config/system
file cannot be found. I went to the microsoft knowledge base and found the
article that corresponds with my problem. I followed the directions on the
article. When I got to the last step, to reboot in safe mode, it came up
with another error.
"System error: Lsass.exe
When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value
provided as the current password is not correct."

The article I used for the first problem had this possible error fix also.
The problem being is now when I load the recovery console, it askes for an
password to access the windows partion. There wasn't a password on this
drive to begin with. I tried leaving it blank, but no prevail.

I am up for any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Kind of vague as to what was done but if you replaced the registry hive
files then the password for the local administrator account reverts to what
it was at that point. If that's the case this tool may help.

compiler to download

OK, try resetting the password first. Here's the one you want to create a
bootable CD-Rom

| Sorry to be so vague, I guess. Here is the kb article location for the
| errors I was getting. I tried every thing in this article. When I got
the
| password error, i tried the steps again, but I could not get passed the
| password section.

This is another Microsoft catch 22. With the \system file corrupted
one cannot enter a password using the repair console. I fooled with
this problem for almost a week. I finally had to use a backup image
to get back up and running.
