Renaming the Recycle Bin

Gayle

Not that it's important, but is there any way to change
the name of the Recycle Bin? I have Windows XP Home, and
like having complete control over my computer. After
all, I bought it, so it's mine! I tried downloading a
tweak for renaming the recycle bin from Kelleys' Corner,
but it didn't work.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

So You Want To Rename Your Recycle Bin?

The Recycle Bin is a system icon and cannot be changed using the right-click
and selecting the "rename" option like most of the other icons on your
desktop. It can, however, be changed in the Windows Registry. Here's how:

- Go to Start> Run and type "regedit" (with out the quotes) in the text box.
Click OK.
- Open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and locate CLSID (the Class ID option). Scroll down
to the {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} key and click it.
- In the right pane, double-click (Default) and change the name from Recycle
Bin to whatever you like.
- Click OK and close RegEdit.
- To see your new name, click once anywhere on the desktop and press the F5
key.

Another option? More Dynamic?

Now remember, don't try this at home. heh

Next time, search in plain words what you want to do at Google.. It's where
I found these and SO much more by searching for:

rename recycle bin Windows XP

This is the only entry you need to change, after closing
Regedit, right click Desktop and click Refresh.
Copy of my reg file:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}]
@="Garbage Can"

I find it very difficult to make it stick. After changing *all*
references in the registry to 'Retriever' (my preferred name, that goes
with an icon of a nice friendly dog) I find that I still need a
registry patch around, to be merged in whenever the name reverts to
Recycle Bin, followed by clicking in empty desktop and hitting F5 to
refresh it. FWIW the registry file contains

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache]
"@C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\SHELL32.dll,-8964"="Retriever"

(Leave a blank line after that: [HKEY to Cache] is one line; "@C:\\
starts the next)
