renaming files

when I try to rename a file (mp3,image,etc.) I get this
pop up message " if you change a filename extesion, the
file may become unusable" Any idea if this is normal for
windows 2000 pro? Anyway to fix it? Thanks

Yes that is normal,if you inadvertently change the filename extension.
To resolve, Open "My Computer", select Tools, Folder options and View,
Scroll down and UNcheck "Hide file extentions...." that way you can see
just where in the filename you are making the changes and can avoid
changing the extension.
