Renaming a batch of files.

The Ponty Cyclops

I am sure there was an option on Windows XP to rename files in batches. When
I copy a load of photo's over from my digital camera to the hard drive I
want to rename them sequentially i.e.. picture001.jpeg, picture002.jpeg,
picture003.jpeg, etc. Can anyone tell if this function exists, or did I
dream it? If it does, how do I switch it back on?
My camera software is pretty pants, and will only let me use about five
characters before the numbers begin!
Ta ever so, if anyone can help

You're not dreaming, I used this function today. For me the camera wizard or
whatever they call it, appears when my USB connection is initiated. If it
doesn't, I don't know how to re-activate it.

I saw how to do it 2 days ago. I think u highlight all
files, rt-clk, rename, Rename 1st X
then 2nd is X(1),... Yep- just did it.

Hello torgeir,

This is on another matter but I've had trouble finding
you. Back in March,2003 u responded to 1 of my posts
with:

'Could not find a script for this at the Doug Knox site
so I made one:

'chkdsk_all.vbs
Runs chkdsk on all hard disks'
(code followed) '

My problem is that 30% of time I check 7 partitions on
my HD I get an error on 1 but when I run chkdsk/F on
that 1 it doesnt mention anything about errors or
fixing anything.

Thats a discrepency I was hoping u could explain. Maybe
its a problem with chkdk - I never run it in XP since I
got ur script! Could it be the script?

Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- Larry

Hi

I doubt that my script chkdsk_all.vbs is causing this.

I see from your post
http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

that it was the file \WINDOWS\system32\config\software.LOG you got an error on.

This is a dynamic file that is updated all the time if I am not mistaken, and
it might be that it is in a state sometimes that chkdsk defines as an error.

Thank you torgeir for such a quick response. I
recalled making that post but not details. I should use
Google for searching posts instead of just going to NG
to get current ones.

So if software.LOG has an error, I should just ignore
it & assume all partitions are OK?

Thanks- bye- Larry

If you get this error on that file, next time rerun chkdsk and if it reports no error,
I would say that this is something you can ignore, yes.
