Removing Watermarks from Document

I received a Word 2003 document that contained a text
watermark in 3 of the 13 sections in the document. I am
trying to find a way to remove the watermark. I have
tried (as per Word help) to add a watermark to the whole
document and then delete it. This does not work, it
applies a second water mark overtop of the current
watermark and then when the delete is done the original
watermark is still present in the 3 sections. I have also
tried this for the header/footer watermark with out
success.

View | Header and Footer. Use the Show Previous/Show Next buttons as needed
to get to the sections that have a watermark. Click on the watermark and
press Delete.
