Removing Vista RC1

I have Win XP and the Vista RC1 on the same hard disk. XP was installed
first followed by Vista.
Will it be possible to delete Vista while retaining XP without formating
the disk ? Vista shows itself on 'C' drive and XP on 'D'.
I do not want to go through downloading all the updates of XP again.
Please advise.

Saying Vista is on C and XP is on D doesn't explain the situation. How many
drives are in the system? How are they partitioned. What are the volume
labels? Where is Vista installed (drive, partition, volume label)? Where
is XP installed (drive, partition, volume label)? Is this a dual boot
configuration using the Vista boot loader?
