Removing Tab without switching tabs

Hello, I know you can't hide the tabs on a tab control so I am removing them
but when I do the tab control automatically selects the last tab after it
removes one. How do I prevent this? I know I can just simply reset the
Tabcontrol.SelectedIndex property but this is messy and causes the tab
control to flicker on the screen. Does someone know a fix?

Do you believe that a moderate user sees that as flicker when he is changing
a tab?
