Removing Domain Controller problems

Hi all,

I am trying to remove a DC, but the DC hasn't synced in 1 1/2 years!
What can I do to remove it?

The domain has 2 sites, first site has 2 DC working fine. This site
(second site) has one DC. I want to replace the current DC and put in
a new one.

When I run DCpromo to remove it I get "Logon Failure: Target account
name is invalid". I have checked DNS and such, have googled the error,
but so far am empty handed.

Any help would be appreciated.

If it has the latest Service packs (4+ for instance) then you
can "DCPromo /forcedremoval", but you will also need to
(eventually) do "NTDSUtil metadata cleanup".

BTW: Since a DC from 1 1/2 years ago has not been online,
are you making BACKUPS?

forcedremoval should help.

if I were you I would either

dcpromo /forceremoval

OR

just wack it!

after that: clean the AD metadata of that DC
