removing contacts from multiple lists

Guest

I have MS Outlook 2003. I would like to delete one contact, who is in
multiple distribution groups. Is there a way that I can delete the main
contact, as well as all listings of it in the distribution lists, at one time
(without having to go through each list and manually deleting it)?

If you need further explanation...I email contacts when it is their month
to submit an article for my newsletter. (I have a distribution list for each
month of the year, and some contacts are listed in more than one distribution
list.) I need to delete one contact, but he is in almost all the distribution
lists.

Any help will be appreciated.

No. You must go into each DL and run "Update Now." Even then, the odds are
about 80% that the update won't work and you will have to remove the member
manually. That's how DL's "work."

Thanks for your response. (I didn't think that there was a way to delete the
name from all the lists -- but I wanted to make sure before I wasted all my
time removing it manually.)

Have a great evening!

if you used a dynamic DL it would work. :)

Diane,

Thanks for the link. However, how do I use the dynamic DL? Is it something
that I install? I followed the instructions on your link, but didn't see
anything about deleting a contact under "actions." (I clicked on "Contact",
"Group by Category," and selected the group -- and checked the options under
"Actions."

By the way, Diane, the cells under the word "Category" are blank.

You need to create a category for each distribution list you need - add the
members to the category. To remove them from a DL, open the contact and
delete the category from their contact.

That's because you haven't assigned categories to any of your contacts.

Create a category called "DL1" and add some contacts to it and try again.
