Removing a pst

Outlook 2002 / WXP
On the left side of my screen (Folder View) I have 'Personal Folders'
and 'File-pst.' I don't want the File-pst visible. But when I right
click on it and select 'Close File-pst' I get
'The Operation Failed. An Object could not be Found.'
How do I remove the pst?

Is it listed as a data source? (See mail applet in control panel, then
select data files.)

Yeah, I'm quite confused. I have a 'Personal Folder' with the data file
as C:\ . . .name.pst. And I have a Name-pst but it doesn't show up in
the Data Files list.
But that's not all. The file above is c:\files\name.pst. Also in this
folder is mailbox.pst, archive.pst, and outlook.pst. But I also have an
idential file in c:\documents and settings\name\local
settings\application data\microsoft\outlook\name.pst. In addition to
deleting name-pst from my Outlook folder pane, how do I know which ones
I need to keep.

Do you have a name.pst in both locations you listed? If push comes to
shove, create a new PST file and remove the 2 "name.pst" files. From there
you can start with a clean pst and then open each via the File | Open in
Outlook to determine which has the data you need.

Don't know if I should have left things alone or not. I no longer have
name-pst in the Folder view, thanks for the help. Now, however, I have
to 'Personal Folders' (identical as far as I can tell) but can delete
neither. How do I get rid of one of them?

Close Outlook and all e-mail enabled apps (and apps that use Outlook data
like PDA, Fax, .etc). Go to the mail applet and select show profiles.
Create a new mail profile (don't copy the existing). Set the new profile to
the default. At this point delete the old profile or keep it around for
prosperity. (you have minor registry corruption. you must do this or
create a new userid on windows 2000/xp and switch to it.)

OK, I did that. One opening, I have 2 Personal Folders - one with all
my personal info from the previous profile and one blank.
FYI, closed Outlook, Thunderbird, callerID all, and NAV. Added a
profile and entered one of 4 email addresses. Opened Outlook. Pointed it
to the new profile. What did I miss?
