Removed wrong contact folder

I had two contact folders by same name (Contacts) and accidentally deleted
wrong one. Can I retrieve it?

I have Outlook 2003, and also have the original contact list in a backup
file somewhere, but do not know how to search for it.

Not if it was in internal memory on your pda. That is what backups are for.

How did you make the backup?

If you haven't emptied the Deleted Items folder, it's in there.

sorry I sent this private before...

I didn't find it in Deleted items. Wonder if I am dealing with two
different .pst files.

That would be fairly obvious if you were, because you'd have two PSTs listed
in the Folder List.

I can kill the unwanted .pst file, but I can't seem to get rid of the extra
Contacts folder. What do I need to do?

First, decide if you, in fact, have an extra PST. In addition to the extra
Contacts folder, if you have more than one PST you'll have at least an extra
Deleted Items folder. If you don't, then you don't have an extra PST and
there's nothing to "kill". If you do, then close that PST with
right-click>Close, close Outlook, and then you can delete the extra PST. If
the problem is that in the Address Book's "Show names from the" drop-down
you have the extra Contacts folder, then in the Address Book, just click
Tools>Options and remove it there.

While I can force which .pst file will be the default mail folder, I can't
seem to do the same for the Contacts folder. How do I cause the Contacts
folder associated with my primary .pst file to be the Contacts folder that
comes up when you click the "To" button on a new email message? Right now I
have a few .pst files: my primary, called Outlook1, one I use as a backup
(Outlook2), and a Mailbox.pst from the past.

When I installed Office 2003, I had placed my .pst files on a CD first, so
there were no pst files when Office first ran. I have had troubles ever
since.

When you choose the delivery location PST, ALL of the default folders in
that PST will eb the active ones.

Any contact folder in any PST can be enabled as an address book so that it
appears when you click the To button. What one appears first can be
controlled with the Address Book's Tools>Options settings I mentioned.

If you really want to straighten things out, create a new mail profile and
add in only those PSTs you want. See
