Remove XP from dual boot

I have been running a Vista/XP dual boot system on a partitioned hard drive.
Since my hard drive is rather small I would like to remove XP. What choices
do I have?

How is your hard drive set up. XP on the first partition, then Vista on the
second? You then probably have the first partition with the system files.
If you have Vista on the first partition, and it is the active system
partition, you can just delete the second partition and expand your Vista
partition into it. Then you can use MSCONFIG, EasyBCD or VistaBootPro, to
remove the XP entry from your BCD. Also, is Vista seen as 'C' from within
Vista. Make sure you have everything you need off of the XP drive before
you delete it.

Thanks John.

XP is on the first partition, Vista on the second. In Vista, Vista shows as
'C' and XP as 'D'.

Hi,

The first partition is likely the active one, so don't format it. Just
delete the XP system folders from it. You should be able to modify the boot
options on the appropriate tab of msconfig.

You will probably want to finish off your project by using a product such as
BootItNg to add the space you have freed up to your Vista partition. You
would have to run the startup repair (up to several times occasionally) to
restore the Vista boot. You can either merge the partitions or delete the
xp partition and add the free space to the Vista partition. BootItNg is
available as a trial download and if you think you will have future need for
the product you can purchase it or just uninstall it when you are done.
Vista sees itself as C, so no worries there. Good luck.
