Remove Previous Installs option

B

Brent

In the Windows 2000 Active Directory Services 2nd edition MCSE book I have
it talks about the option "Remove Previous Installs Of This Product From
(users/computers) If Product Was Not Installed By Group Policy-Based
Software Installation" in the Advanced windows of the Deployment tab.
However, when I select the Advanced window I only get the "Ignore Language
When Deploying This Package" option. How do you get the Remove previous
installs option to show up?

Thanks

Whether or not that option is displayed depends on the version of administrative
tools you are using for deployment. The "Advanced Deployment Options" pane
typically had the following info:

-- Advanced deployment options --
[checkbox] Ignore language when deploying this package
[checkbox] Remove Previous Installs Of This Product From (users/computers) If
Product Was Not Installed By Group Policy-Based Software Installation
[checkbox] Include OLE class and product information

-- Advanced diagnostic information --
....

Older versions of Win2000 administrative tools would display the second
checkbox. However, in later versions of Win2K (starting with SP4) this option
was removed from the UI. The unmanaged product is always removed regardless of
the value of the checkbox. If you look at the pane, you'll probably notice a big
gap between the "Ignore language" and "Include OLE" checkboxes.

On Windows Server 2003, the checkbox is also gone. A new checkbox has also been
added -- "Make the 32-bit application available to Win64 machines".

The default behavior is to now always remove unmanaged versions of the product
before the installation. (A product installed using Group Policy is called
'managed').

Hope this helps,
