Hello
I have searched the forum but can't find the answer to my specific problem.
A friend has Win98SE on his computer but it is very unstable and causing all
sorts of problems. I have offered to wipe Win98SE from his system and put Win
XP Corp-Pro on it. His system is capable of taking WinXP.
At the moment his hard drive is non-partitioned i.e just C Drive and he wants
to keep it that way. I am unsure if he is using Fat32 system or not.
Would someone be kind enough to guide me through the exact steps/sequence in
logical order (as I am a non-techie) required to delete Win98SE and clean
install Win XP Corp-Pro. Alternatively direct me to an article which explains
in simple, easy to follow steps how to do this specifically for this
particular case.
Many Thanks

There is no legal version of XP called "Win XP Corp-Pro". Do not put a
pirated version of XP on your friend's machine; he won't be able to get
updates and you won't be doing him any favors. Have him buy a retail
copy of XP Home (he probably doesn't need Pro) and clean-install it.

Many thanks for your assistance, this is exactly what I needed. I hope the
'Good Luck' at the end of your post doesn't imply that some luck will be
needed!!
Thanks again

Hello,
The best thing to do is to Install clean winXP. You need to Format C
drive(backup the files on cd-rom or network storage before format) then Boot
up with WINXP CD and Install.
Here is a Clean Install Procedure with Illustrative Screen Captures:

Smokin'.. a great place to ask how to install a pirated version of XP..
there is a use for the pirated copy, however.. run it in Win 98, and take
option 4 to check for system compatibility.. after you have done this, make
a 'trench' across the underside of the CD, and write "COASTER' on the top
surface..

Advise your friend to purchase a legal CD.. it will come with a legal key,
and if the full retail version, will allow the user to transfer the OS to a
newer computer in the future.. other benefits of buying such a version are
direct help from Microsoft, replacement of lost of broken CD's, ability to
pass WGA and so install all of the updates available for XP etc..

OEM XP is the cheapest way to go, but all support is down to the installer
of the system, and it is not transferable to another system..

Re. the instability, ensure that the system works properly.. any hardware
issues will prevent XP form installing.. the OS does not like to be
installed on what is essentially junk..

Retail versions are supplied with a booklet that outlines the steps
necessary to install XP.. happy reading..

How? There's no such thing. Or better yet, why would you install a
stolen copy of the OS on a friend's computer? What did he do to deserve
such shabby treatment? You see, there is no such thing as WinXP
"Corporate Edition." That is a term applied exclusively to pirated
(iow, stolen) copies of the Volume Licensed WinXP Pro by the "warez"
aficionados.

His system is capable of taking WinXP.

Well, if he's running Win98, and the hard drive is larger than 2 Gb
(which it would have to be to even come close to WinXP's minimum
requirements), than he has to be using FAT32. There's no other file
system that Win98 could possibly be using, under the conditions you've
stated.

Would someone be kind enough to guide me through the exact steps/sequence in
logical order (as I am a non-techie) required to delete Win98SE and clean
install Win XP Corp-Pro.

If you want help installing a legitimate license of WinXP Pro, post
back saying so. I'm certainly not going to tell you how to screw over
your friend and install pirated software.
