remote service not running on xp computer

I have one XP SP2 computer I can not connect to

Ping works fine
netstat does not show TCP 0.0.0.0:3389 0.0.0.0:0
LISTENING
Firewall is down

Any one have and Ideas?

Is it XP Pro or Home?

If Pro, then:
Run | sysdm.cpl | Remote
check "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer"

Have you tried starting the Terminal Services service? See the
troubleshooting section on this page for help with that...

I suggest you configure it for Automatic then start the service.

Is it XP Pro or Home?

If Pro, then:
Run | sysdm.cpl | Remote
check "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer"

It is Pro and it is the first thing I tried.

You might try...


1. Re-registering Remote Desktop using the command line that
follows...Reboot the PC after doing this...

regsvr32 remotepg.dll


2. Otherwise try a repair install of Windows XP... Note the warnings on the
page and backup important data just to be safe...

iI have done some more trouble shooting and now I have terminal
services listed in my services but it will not start.
