Remote Procedure Call

David

I have Windows XP at home on my Sony Vaio computer and it
keeps shutting down after I get the following automatic
shutdown notice:

The NT/Authority system iRemote Procedure Call service
terminated unexpectedly and the computer is shutting down.

I can't figure out what the problem is and I can't stay on-
lin at home long enough to send an e-mail to get help from
MSN of which I am a subscriber.

If your computer is constantly rebooting, quickly go to:
Start > Run and type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

Then immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:

You have an unwelcome visitor known as the WM32 Blaster/Lovsan worm.
It entered your computer through your internet connection because the "firewall"
was not properly enabled and essential critical updates were not installed from
the Windows Update website. For instructions on fixing the problem, visit:

the instructions.

Last, but not least, consider purchasing and installing a comprehensive
internet security package, such as:

-- Includes Norton AntiVirus 2003
-- Includes Norton Personal Firewall
-- Automatically updates itself
-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
-- All in one, easy-to-install & manage package

You have the w32.blaster virus. Using a friend's uninfected PC, go to
Symantec's web site to download a fix to a floppy. Run the fix from Safe
Mode (Shut off System Restore before running the fix). Then reboot to
XP's normal mode and go to Microsoft's Windows Update site and download
all critical patches. Then turn System Restore back on and reboot.
