Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly

I just installed Windows XP Home on a new computer and new hard drive today. I periodically keep getting a message that says that the NT Authority\System is shutting down my computer. The rest of the message says 'Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.

Then the error gives me 60 seconds to close everything before Windows XP Home automatically Restarts my computer

This is getting annoying

I have already activated the system and am still getting this occasional auto shutdown. It's as bad as the old blue screen of death, and even more random. How do I stop it. It even does it to me while I'm trying to download XP updates.

Hi!

Use this two tools, Stinger from Mcafee removes the virus
and the ms patch is closing the backdoor.

Its W32.Blaster.Worm!! I did the same and it drops me as soon as I connect to the web with exactly the same message and action. If you can find internet access elsewhere, you need the fix tool FIXBLAST from Symantec Corp and WindowsXP-KB823980-x86-ENU from Microsoft. If you can get them I can tell you how to go on, or if you can't, your local Computer retailer might help.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary
updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and
enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut
down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to
preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
installed the KB824146 Hotfix, without having first installed an
antivirus application with current virus definition files, and before
enabling a firewall, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
