Remote Guest Account, is it for real?

I don't have a clue what the problem is, but I have NEVER
been
able to get the Guest Account to work for file sharing
with another
XP machine on the network.

ComputerA is used by UserA logged in with PasswordA.
ComputerB is used by UserB logged in with PasswordB.

ComputerA has a Guest account set up as Guest, with
PasswordC.
UserB can see ComputerA on the network. UserB cannot get
to
shared folders on ComputerA. UserB is either informed
immediately
the he doesn't have permission to access, or sometimes he
gets
a login dialog. When UserB enters Guest and PasswordC at
the
login dialog, he is still denied access.

Has anyone EVER been able to make this work?
Am I trying to do something that is impossible?
What can I possibly have wrong?

This appears that it should be a straightforward thing to
do.
Obviously, there's more to it than meets the eye.

Do I sound at the end of my rope?

Please, someone help . . .

ComputerA\Guest is not the same as ComputerB\Guest. Try connection to
ComputerA with ComputerA\Guest as your username.
