- What operating system does your client run?
- What internal firewall do you have?
- What virus scanner do you have?
- Is Remote Desktop enabled on your client PC?
- What message do you get when trying to make an RD connection?
- What do you get when you run this command from a
Command Prompt on the server?
telnet SomeClientName 3389

The telnet.exe message means that you do not have a Remote
Desktop server listening on the default RD port 3389. This can
be caused by one of the following:

a) Incorrect IP address
b) Terminal Services not running
c) A firewall is blocking access on port 3389
d) Someone changed the default port

a), b) and c) are by far the most likely candidates. a) and b) are
easily checked from the Command Prompt. c) is often caused
by firewalls that are integrated with virus scanners, e.g. with Trend.
ZoneAlarm is another prime suspect.

It is likely that you have a firewall that blocks your pinging
packets as well as your Remote Destkop packets. I cannot
do anything about your firewall - you have to identify and
turn it off yourself. What virus scanner do you use?

i use norton antivirus corporate edition and i load client with norton
corporate.

I'm not familiar with this product, hence I do not know
if it has an integrated firewall. I recommend you check
the Norton FAQs for tips on how to turn off any firewall
you might have.

Have you installed Service Pack 2 on Windows XP? It became available
recently and a firewall in enabled, which will block your incoming remote
desktop connection from the server. Open Control Panel, go to Windows
Security Center, click Windows Firewall, and click to turn it off, then
click ok and try connecting again.
