Remote desktop

Corey

I am trying to configure a remote desktop connection. My
laptop is part of my office domain but my home desktop is
part of a workgroup. When I try to connect I get the
error "The client could not connect to the remote
computer. Remote connections might not be enabled or the
computer might be too busy to accept..."
I am running XP on the laptop and Windows 2000 on the
desktop. What do I need to do on the desktop to be able
to remotely connect?

Are you trying to connect from the XP box to the Windows 2000 box? If so
this will not work, Windows 2000 doesn't have the ability to act as a Remote
Desktop host. If it is Windows 2000 Server you can install Terminal Servies
in remote administration mode.
If you are attempting to connect from the Windows 2000 box to the XP box,
check to make sure all firewalls and routers are allowing TCP port 3389
traffic.

To TS (start the remote connection) to Win2000 you need to Add Terminal
Services from Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components and adds Terminal
Services.
You will need to decide in which mode, Application Server or Remote
Administration mode and chose security level.
On Remote Admin you are restricted to 2 sessions only at the same time
For Application mode you will need to set up licensing server but you will
have unlimited number of concurent sessions from multiple users ....
