Can anyone tell me why when using the web connection of remote desktop, that
the connect button doesn't let you click on it? I tried it from 2 computers
and it seems to be dimmed out or just doesn't allow me to click on it after i
put in the server name.

I would guess that you do not have remote desktop enabled on your computer
goto Help and Support then Working Remotely then Remote Desktop (on the left
pane) you will find all the info you need to set this up there.

If the Connect button is not functional, and your browser does not
automatically install the required ActiveX control, the control may be
downloaded from here.

HI: You need to install Activex on the outside coputer. You should see a
yellow bar below the search bar on the internet browser indicating you to
install it. That's why the connect button is dimmed out. Good luck!

I'm having the same problemn wtih a disabled connect button.

I have downloaded and installed the tswebsetup.exe package on the host
machine.

When I try and connect using the web, I get the default.htm page with a
disabled connect button. As it is loaded I do get the popup asking me if I
want to run activex controls. I reply OK, but I do not get ay other prompt
asking if I want to install it as described elsewhere.

Try to enable RDP add-ons in IE. These search result may help.

Remote Desktop Web Connection ...Select category "Add-ons that have been
used by IE" ... Select Enable and click OK to add the RDP Client Control >
6. Restart IE ...

Thanks for response, Bob,

That got me a little further. I didn't see RDP Client Control in any of the
lists, but I did see two Microsoft Terminal Terminal Services entries that
were disabled.

When I enabled them, the Connect button became active.

However, although I do get further and see an additional confirmation
screen, I eventually get a message that the specified computer can't be
found.

I double check my IP address (whatismyip.com) and also my port forwarding
settings on my router. For example:

My call is: http://ipaddress:port/tsweb/

The IP address matches the current IP address of the host. The port is a
unique one (suggested by other posts for security reasons instead of default
of 80).

I have set up port forwarding for that unique port to my LAN IP address
(192.168.1.47) and also tried adding 3389 later as well.

On the host I have also set up the TCP port to the unique one under the
default web pages section under Internet Information Services.

What I did forget to include was that the client is running XP SP3, and the
host is still at XP SP2 (I haven't been successful upgrading there yet).

So, slight progress in that the Connet button is now active after enabling
those two controls mentioned above, but I didn't find the one you mentioned.

Thanks,
Joe

I'm not sure what I should see when I try. But here's what happened.

After issuing the "telnet host port" command from a DOS prompt, I get a new
blank screen. If I hit enter a couple of times, I get:

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.1
Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2008 17:35:49 GMT
Content-Type: text/html
Content-Length: 87

<html><head><title>Error</title></head><body>The parameter is incorrect.
</body>
</html>

Connection to host lost.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>

Does this suggest anything? I did make sure that w3svc had been started.

Thanks,
Joe

It seems to me the port is open. But I don't have a picture what's the
problem.

I'm sure this is the same problem that I am having! Its caused by SP3
very annoyingly disabling the IE extension for TSWeb, to re-enable it
you have to delete the extension GUID from:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{GUID}
Trouble is, I'm not sure which extension is the correct one for TSWeb.
I read an article about this last month, and deleted the extension
GUID which got TSWeb working fine. However I've since formatted and
reinstalled and now can't find the article again :-(

Just found the article:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/e...be-installed-after-installing-windows-xp-sp3/
Go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings and
delete {7584c670-2274-4efb-b00b-d6aaba6d3850} then restart IE
